"George Barbier (French, 1882 - 1932) was the go-to illustrator when Paris wanted its fantasies filtered through elegance and edge. "Pride" stands radiant and untouchable, draped in cascading feathers and framed by the wreckage of male devotion. Working with the pochoir method, a labor-intensive process that made color feel sculptural, he shaped the visual vocabulary of Art Deco."
