"Mikuláš Galanda (Slovak, 1895 - 1938) painted at the intersection of folk narrative and modern geometry, using flowers to both soften and sharpen his compositions. He trained in Prague and, shaped by the European avant-garde, helped define Slovak modernism by teaching and publishing his radical sense of form. Galanda was what you’d get if Picasso grew up in the Tatras sketching shepherds and saints: a self-styled folky futurist."
