"Jean-Honoré Fragonard (French, 1732–1806) crafted this icon of Rococo decadence with both charm and bite. A woman swings freely, casting off her shoe and inhibition while her secret lover peeks up from the shadows. Fragonard’s brush skips like gossip across a salon - witty, light, and vaguely treasonous. Legend has it this work was commissioned by a courtier who requested his mistress be pushed by a bishop; Fragonard agreed, then cheekily replaced the bishop with Cupid."
