Antique Buffalo Pottery Semi Vitreous Pitcher Chrysanthemum Blue Green Gold Trim Early 1900s

$45.00

This antique Buffalo Pottery pitcher, dating to the early 1900s, is a fine example of semi-vitreous American china. Decorated with a rich blue to green gradient glaze, it features a chrysanthemum floral transfer pattern accented by a scalloped rim and hand-applied gold gilding. The ornate handle and embossed body further highlight the craftsmanship of this era.

Made by Buffalo Pottery, later known as Buffalo China, Inc., the company was established in Buffalo, New York in 1901 by the Larkin Soap Company. It became one of the first U.S. manufacturers to produce both semi-vitreous and vitreous china, earning a reputation for durability and artistry. Decorative pitchers such as this one showcase their more collectible work beyond hotel and restaurant wares.

This pitcher is particularly collectible because its gilding is well-preserved, unlike many surviving examples where gold trim has worn away. It remains in excellent antique condition with no chips or cracks, only minor interior spotting consistent with age. Both decorative and functional, it makes an impressive display piece or a striking addition to a collection of American pottery.

Why It’s Special?
This pitcher is considered rare due to the survival of its original gilding in such strong condition. Most examples of this pattern from the same era show significant loss of gold trim, making this piece especially desirable for collectors. It is also unusual to find this chrysanthemum pitcher in the blue-green colorway, as very few examples in this shade appear in the secondary market or online listings.
