The Curatorial Note (inside front cover)
"Ernst Ludwig Kirchner (German, 1880–1938) believed color should feel, not just fill. A co-founder of Die Brücke, he helped ignite German Expressionism with jagged lines and emotional intensity. Trained as an architect but restless in tradition, Kirchner sought truth in distortion. Slouched figure, empty bottles, a cat curled in the corner - this feels more like a mood than a moment. Even the room seems to lean with her. Stillness, under stress."
