The Artwork
Variétéparade by Ernst Ludwig Kirchner
The Blurb
"Ernst Ludwig Kirchner (German, 1880–1938) painted like someone trying to outrun civilization. As a founder of Die Brücke, he rejected polite art and dove into Berlin’s neon-lit chaos - cabarets, circuses, and girls in fishnets. The Nazis labeled his work “degenerate” and pulled hundreds of pieces from museums. Still, he insisted that his true goal was to express spiritual states through color and form. These figures aren’t dancing; they’re vibrating at a frequency only modernity - and collapse - could induce."
